Here you will find some basic information about our LAN party and organisation. You can also ask questions on our english dedicated discussion group in the PolyLAN Forum.
First off what is PolyLAN ? PolyLAN is an organisation held by a dozen students at the EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland. We organize a LAN Party twice a year where on average about 200 players come to play video games and win many prizes graciously offered by our sponsors.
What do you need to join in on the fun ? Well all you need is a working computer with an ethernet jack. You can sign up on our site for the next PolyLAN, usually we open registration 2 or 3 months before the event. And then you show up at the event, hook up your computer and start playing. During the event we offer a bar with basic necessities like sodas and pizzas.
When and how long is PolyLAN ? The next PolyLAN will be hosted at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne on the 1st and 2nd of November 2008. We open up our doors at 9am on Saturday and close them at 6pm on Sunday. The main tournaments start at around noon, once everybody is set up.
Every PolyLAN has 3 or 4 main tournaments as well as dozens of secondary tournaments or "Animations", these are games played in a 1-2 hour period and in a "free for all" kind of way rather than using qualifying and tournament style eliminations like our regular tournaments. When you sign up you have to choose which tournament you want to be part of, if any, since these go on over the whole period of the event you cannot participate in more than one. Our "Animations" on the other hand are spread out over the whole weekend so you can play in as many as you want.
